VICKY NEWMAN

BSc (Hons) MBACC

Vicky Newman is a fully qualified acupuncturist with a First-Class Honours degree (BSc Hons) in Acupuncture, from the renowned International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM). Her training included learning about the Five Element, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Stems and Branches theories of Chinese medicine, and she tailors individual treatments to each patient's needs.

Originally from Harpenden in Hertfordshire, she spent time traveling and working in Australia, Spain, and Africa. In 2002 Vicky moved to Brighton to start a career with the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

After joining the ambulance service in 2003, Vicky progressed in her career to become an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, giving her an in-depth knowledge of western medical conditions and treatments. This is an invaluable resource of help to her patients in her acupuncture practice.

Through her employment, Vicky completed a Foundation degree in Paramedic Science at Portsmouth University and a BSc in Healthcare Science degree at St. Georges University in London. As well as responding to 999 calls, she also has advanced training in working alongside community health care teams and GP's, autonomously delivering advanced assessment and treatment to lower acuity patients, often with long-term and complex medical and social issues.

Vicky is registered and insured with the British Acupuncture Council (www.acupuncture.org.uk) and adheres to their strict code of ethics and safe practice.

Acupuncture Style of Practice

As an ICOM (International College of Oriental Medicine, East Grinstead) trained practitioner, Vicky applies classical acupuncture as the primary treatment approach. This means that she utilises an overview of all aspects of health when creating a treatment plan that addresses the underlying conditions rather than just the symptoms. As a trained practitioner of TCM, Five Element Theory and Stems and Branches practice, this is the gold standard of best practice.

In addition to this training, Vicky is committed to an on-going development of her skills and strives to stay on the cutting-edge of acupuncture practice, attending a range of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) events. As a member of the British Acupuncture Council she is required to adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct and safety codes.

Five Element Theory

The "Five Element Theory" is an acupuncture practice that is based on the concepts of Chinese philosophy concerning the movement of energy as observed in nature. This serves as a valuable frame of reference for analysing and predicting natural transformations in nature with corresponding reflections in the body. Even though this was conceptualized thousands of years ago, the concepts are as true today as they were then.

Stems and Branches

According to the principles of Stems and Branches Acupuncture, humanity, as well as the entire natural world, is affected by the cycles of life. Through the practice of Stems and Branches, the acupuncturist attempts to harness the power of these cycles and rhythms to increase good health. The systems that govern this practice can also provide deep insights into the constitutional capacity of the individual and why certain diseases will affect them more than others. This knowledge can then be converted into an effective plan of treatment for addressing the conditions causing poor health through acupuncture. It also helps the acupuncturist choose from the many energy pathways available.
