Case Report on Mrs.F.G

Diagnosis

Pituitary adenoma. If you were right, well done. You should have taken about 38 minutes.

Discussion

Pituity adenomas are more commonly seen in middle age. As the tumour progresses the compression on the chiasma extends the field loss next to the inferior temporal fields, and finally to the nasal field. However, not all pituity tumours produce these typical field defects, some can produce dense central scotomas, sometimes unilateral or a mixture of central to bitemporal.

This patient presented with a slightly blurry left eye, and no other problems. In this case no diagnosis could be attempted without taking the visual fields. None of the other optometric procedures indicated pathology.
