Aims and Objects of the British Chapter
- The British Chapter was formed in 1952, and its object is to promote excellence
in the practise of optometry.
- Membership is open to all UK registered optometrists who share these ideals
and show their competence by examination of 5 case reports. Vision scientists
working in the area of vision enhancement or clinical optometry are also encouraged
to join. For further details about joining please refer to the US website.
- The British Chapter aims to provide 2 yearly continuing education conferences
with the emphasis on advanced techniques, and the airing of new knowledge
through the presentation of research papers. The chapter will also campaign
to improve the scope of British optometry.
- The British Chapter was the first UK optometric body to require continuing
education as a requirement for membership.
- The Academy is fast becoming the world's leader in promoting high standards
of optometry, and in particular providing international links between optometrists
of all countries.
